Marshall Contemporary was founded in 2018 by curator Douglas Marshall to promote the work of emerging and mid-career artists working in process-driven, photo-based approaches, with an emphasis on printmaking craftsmanship and technical innovation. Marshall is currently Director at Galerie XII, Los Angeles, formerly Director at Peter Fetterman Gallery, Santa Monica (2012-2017), and collaborates reguarly with artists, exhibitors and collectors across the field.
Through an expanding series of intimate, dialogue-focused events including pop-ups, artist talks and collection tours, we hope to expand the conversation about photoraphy's ever-evolving role as a unique medium of the fine arts and in our greater culture. Many of the artists involved and discussed utilize cross-discipline approaches to their work including sculpture, drawing, design and video art, further challenging the process and concepts of image-making.
Works from the artists can be viewed by appointment in Los Angeles and Southern California. Appointments by travel or at select art fairs can also be arranged. Please contact us for further information on specific works or artists, or to schedule a viewing.
Through personal connections to a wide international network of gallerists, artists, collectors and industry specialists, Marshall Contemporary is able to provide art advisory and acquisition services specializing in photography with the ability to source works from 19th Century to Contemporary. Please contact us regarding private collector consultations, special projects or cuatorial assistance.
Marshall Contemporary can assist collectors in coordinating crating, shipping logistics, framing, storage and installation services through the most dedicated fine art teams in Los Angeles.
